Spring Has Sprung - Easter 2016

Well Spring has sprung and this year we have our first Easter tree
The twig tree is from John Lewis and I have added my own decorations. The eggs and birds are from Tiger ... cheap (no pun intended) but durable, which is ideal when there's a curious toddler around.

On Tuesday I attended my first Craft Lounge run by Claire at Create Some Time. For £8 you get to craft (all materials provided), enjoy a cuppa and some cake and chat to like-minded people. On offer this month was three crafts; papercraft basket making, crochet egg making and crochet bunny making. I chose to make some bunnies...

Once home I added a simple split pin to each bunny and now they can see!
The blossom on my tree is from a crochet pattern by Kate of Just Pootling.
I'm chuffed with my first Easter tree and hope it will brighten up what is forecast to be a wet and miserable Easter weekend.

Cozy Fringed Cowl Leasowes View Styley

This week my project on the hook was the Cozy Fringed Cowl.
The pattern is available for free at Yarnspirations and there's also a video tutorial on YouTube by B.hooked Crochet.

I chose to make my version with Patons Smoothie DK yarn. The colours are Slate (01088) and Lilac Mix (02019) ... the same colours I used for my version of the Merry Christmas Mitts. I used a 5mm hook.
The pattern says it is for beginners. I'm not a beginner and I found it challenging at times, simply because I kept getting the wrong number of stitches ... I persevered and finally completed the crochet part.
The fringe was quick and simply to do. I used one piece of Slate and one piece of Lilac Mix for each tassle.
Despite it taking longer than I had hoped (I'm not the most patient of people), I do like the finished piece and I can see myself wearing it in the Spring with a plain white t-shirt, jeans and cowboy boots.

Cross My Palm With Silver ... Silver Ring Making Workshop

This week I finally cashed in one of my Christmas presents ... an evening at a silver ring making workshop.
It was run by The Quarterworkshop in Birmingham City Centre ... just on the outskirts of the Jewellery Quarter.

I arrived late due to traffic, but that didn't stop me getting stuck in and I soon caught up...
...that is until I managed to melt my first ring during one of the annealing stages (I know, I know)
But I soon got back on the saddle and set to work on another piece.
This ring came together quicker than my first attempt and plenty of tea, biscuits and laughs broke up the various stages of the make.

Before long I was ready to sand it, hammer it and shape it to size.
Finally, after a silver polish and buff, my silver hammered ring was ready to take home ... excuse the mucky fingers, being a Silversmith is dirty work.

"White Rabbits, White Rabbits" ... Little Box of Crochet Rabbit

Last week I subscribed to the extremely popular Little Box of Crochet ... I managed to get on to the waiting list and I soon received my first box.
February's box was the Valentine Rabbit ... pattern by Annaboo's House.
My rabbit came together quite well and his tummy heart was my first attempt at Tapestry Crochet. Although it's relatively simple, I found it a little fiddly ... fingers getting in the way of each other!
I love the finished effect and I won't hesitate to try it again in other projects.

I did not make the balloon for my rabbit ... it is held with a cocktail stick and as my 2 year old manages to get his hands on everything he shouldn't, I chose to replace it with a carrot ...
He'll be right at home this month and over the Easter period.
